back to nature

The table piece, back to nature, paper sculpture, 80 x 96 x 20 cm, carries the title theme of the exhibition, therefore it is appropriate to begin my discussion of the exhibition with this particular work.

Completely three dimensional in approach, it was inspired by the serenity of the Japnese Rock Garden and the artist's fascination with the turtle. Western in medium yet Eastern in thought and concept, it draws on the artist's own background and training. Here the often expressed personal motifs and forms ever present in the artist's works, whether it is oil on canvas or paper, is taken a step further. the personal symbolism which is a trademark of her essentially abstract color compositions has taken on sculptural qualities and form in this series of works.
