Overview

Planetary Voyage is Voyage of the planets

A planet

Ancient Greek:   αστήρ πλανήτης (astēr planētēs)

meaning: wandering star

is an astronomical object orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, however, it is not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and has cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimals.

According to Kepler's laws of planetary motion which describes the orbits of objects about the sun: each object travels along an ellipse with the sun at one focus (denoted by the cerulean blue in the center). Objects closer to the Sun travel more quickly, as they are more affected by the sun's gravity whereas a body's distance from the sun varies over the course of its year on the elliptical orbit. A body's closest approach to the sun is called its perihelion, while its most distant point from the sun is called its aphelion. The orbits of the planets are nearly circular, but many comets, asteroids and Kuiper belt objects follow highly elliptical orbits. Basically, Planetary Voyage2 narrates the orbital motions of the known and unknown planets in an artistic language. It is a visage of Hsin Hsin's many visits to the planetariums and observatories in the Northern hemisphere.

Notes:

1) Hsin Hsin visited Kepler's House in Linz, 🇦🇹, 1997 and August 2008.
This is a house where Kepler stayed between 1612 to 1630

2) Hsin Hsin enthusiasm in astronomy is evident in many of her artworks:
2D, 3D, interactive and animations, implemented on the PC
as well as even on the early mobile devices.
